Facial Prosthetics is our specialty: Over 30 years of designing, fabricating and fitting silicone facial prostheses on a daily basis by full time medical artist practitioners. This is unique in the United States, but it means we’ve developed a deep understanding of each type of patient situation. And that means our strategy for each individual’s success is based on our experience of hundreds of patients already treated. This nasal prosthesis features both a gently engaging internal fit to aid positioning and support weight, but also adhesive surfaces around the periphery to provide an extra measure of security. At this point in the video, the technique of applying pressure correctly is demonstrated to the patient and family so they will be able to achieve the proper bond….The patient’s twin brother graciously agreed to allow us to record his nasal shape for the making of his brother’s prosthesis… 2:03 — live audio/music— 2:36.
With any nasal prosthesis there are simple but critical choices that if made conscientiously will greatly aid the patient in positioning and wearing their prosthesis confidently. In other words, we could mold each prosthesis in the same fashion and supply each with the same aggressive adhesive and the same set of instructions. – and this happens in many non-specialized clinics and centers — and most patients and referring physicians don’t know the difference—but we do. We see what is possible so we take the extra time to shift tissues into better position, to finesse master models to prevent gapping, to combine adhesives in some cases, and to employ the many camouflage and blending technique we’ve developed along the way. We package these nuanced strategies into a streamlined plan and provide individualized instructions and training for each patient’s maximum success.
And while a prosthesis will never last forever, our patients can rest assured that our practitioners will always be there, perhaps with even newer technology, to provide cheerful follow-up support.
