Homemade Telescope Solar Filter (Meade/Celestron)

In this video you will learn an easy way to make a very good, professional looking solar filter for your refracting, or smaller sized reflecting telescope(6″ or less). Specially designed solar film/mylar is available online at many stores. Flat PVC solvent weld caps(4″ or smaller) are available at home improvement stores at a reasonable cost. For larger PVC caps you will need to locate a plumbing supply house. Clear silicone adhesive/sealant is readily available.

DISCLAIMER: For safety, always view the sun when it is at a high angle in the sky. The cap should be designed to have no way to accidentally fall out when the telescope is directed upwards. Viewing the sun can be extremely dangerous, especially if the wrong materials are used. Make and use at your own risk. Always verify the film is in tact before looking at the sun! You assume all risks.
