https://MuggyWeld.com customer Dave Wyatt had a 1929 Briggs R2 engine with corrosion in the bottom of the carb bowl. Dennis writes:
“I have a very early Briggs R2, I noticed about 2 months ago and the heart of it, the Carb had cancer in the bowl. It’s an early Tillotson type R. Someone fixed it several years ago with a 5/16 inch bolt and rubber washers. Well I had to fix it right. I would hate to see something like this go to the scrap heap. I went to Muggy weld, and bought a starter kit of their Super Alloy 1. After watching the how to videos and a little practice it worked great! It works on several other metals so I made a small copper disk and placed over the main hole and it flowed and stuck to the zinc die cast” Dennis Wyatt
Update: Hi Mike, It just so happens that I finally got a tank for that engine and just got it running. No leaks and it did fine.

Zinc die cast and pot metal are frequently thrown in the trash because welding supply stores typically do not carry solders for pot metal. The previous owner, with limited choices, tried plugging the hole with a bolt and rubber washers.
