  • Hey all! In this video, we will learn how to use resin, glitter, paint, and printed images to spruce up some star shaped dishes I found at the Dollar Tree. You will see three different methods in decorating the dishes, all methods using resin. I used approx 2oz of resin per dish. You may wish to use less resin, but I wanted a thicker bottom. Use these dishes to hold change, wrapped candies (I dont suggest leaving unwrapped food items for prolonged periods of time on resin), or whatever other bric-a-brac you wish to store. These were super easy to make and super inexpensive. Thanks for watching and craft happily ever after!!!

    MISTYPIXEL GLITTER GALAXY RESIN TUTORIAL:

    FAQ
    1. What resin do you use?
I use primarily East Coast Resin (www.eastcoastresin.com). I also use Clear Cast 7000 for large pours/batches and Famowood (found at Lowes).
Envirotex and Amazing Clear Cast are great too.

    2. Where do you get your glitters and stickers?
I get them everywhere. Mainly Michaels and Hobby Lobby. Amazon and Etsy also help aid my addiction. lol

    3. Where do you get your molds?
Craft stores, Michaels, Storenvy, and Etsy (LOTS of great choices on Etsy).

    4. Where do you live (for temperature/humidity purposes with resin)?
My home state of Indiana (Go COLTS!) though I have moved around the world/country, with my husband, for the Army.

    5. How long have you been resin crafting/crafting?
I have been playing with resin for about 3 years now. As for general crafting…all of my life. :)

    6. What is your favorite sealer for resin pieces?
Doming with resin is always my main preference but if not doming with resin, I like to use TreeHouse clear acrylic spray in gloss (Hobby Lobby brand) and I LOVE Americana Dura Clear gloss glaze (works great for polymer clay too).
Dura Clear can give a resin like finish when applied correctly. :)

    7. How do you seal your paper stickers?
I use the tape/mod podge method as of now (the straight mod podge method is way to inconsistent). Crafterzdelights and SugarCharms808 have great tutorials. Check them out!

CAMERA & AUDIO EQUIPMENT I USE:
    Camera: Sony RX100 M3 ► https://amzn.to/2sLZDis
Voiceover Mic: Samson Go Mic ► https://amzn.to/2sSc3FY
    In-Field Mic: Zoom H1 ► https://amzn.to/2sLXovV
    Tripod: Manfrotto Pixi ► https://amzn.to/2sLNrOX
EXPLANATION: I try to keep my equipment as simple as possible. 90% of the time, all I use to film is my Sony RX100 M3, and all I use for audio is my Samson Go Mic (which I use to record voiceovers after filming). Occasionally I use the Zoom H1 for audio if I want to record audio in-field. As for the Pixi tripod, I sometimes use it while filming food, but most of the time I use it to mount my Samson Go Mic on a desk for voiceovers (in conjunction with the other accessories, listed below).

    MODULAR COMPONENTS I USE:
Smatree SmaPole S3 (hollow pole only) ► https://amzn.to/2sLI7ee
Joby Action Arm (arm only) ► https://amzn.to/2toE0CN
Joby Hand Grip (hand grip only) ► https://amzn.to/2sSe3y0
    Joby Hub Adapter ► https://amzn.to/2toDJ2E
EXPLANATION: Because I’m often traveling, I prefer to have the lightest, smallest, most versatile components available. Therefore, I use bits and pieces from the above gear sets, and these bits and pieces can be connected together in a huge variety of ways. For example, they can be made into a long selfie stick, they can be mounted to my tripod to make it extra-tall, and they can be used with my tripod and Go Mic to position the microphone directly in front of my face while I’m recording voiceovers at a desk.

    MICROPHONE ACCESSORIES I USE:
    Foam Mic Cover ► https://amzn.to/2sSagRo
    Pop Filter ► https://amzn.to/2sSJSHf
EXPLANATION: To improve sound quality for voiceovers, I place a mic cover on the Samson Go Mic, then use an elastic band to hang the pop filter on top. This is not the best audio protection available, but it is the most minimalistic and space-efficient gear for traveling. The mic cover can also be used on the rare occasion that I record audio with the Zoom H1.

GEAR I USE FOR CHARGING ON-THE-GO:
    Anker Mini PowerBank ► https://amzn.to/2sHy8HZ
    Silicone Cables ► https://amzn.to/2tgXf1i
Adapter for Micro to Mini ► https://amzn.to/2sEhlVm
Adapter for Micro to Lightning ► https://amzn.to/2sMBGbd
EXPLANATION: Anker’s lipstick-sized powerbanks are small yet powerful. I travel with two, so that if one has a low charge, I can charge it in my hotel while I’m out and about with the other powerbank. Using the powerbank in conjunction with the short, durable silicone cables and micro/mini/lightning adapters means I can charge just about any device while on-the-go.
