LiquiPel offers a nano-coating for electronic devices that will essentially make your device waterproof (including ports etc.).
To prove it they applied the same nano-coating to a piece of kleenex and the water needs and does not soak in.
They also went ahead and dunked their iPhone 5 coated device in water with no issues to anything when the ports were all exposed.
Sadly the nano-coating does not protect against scuffs or scratches and you need to make sure you’re not plugging anything into the ports unless they are completely dry.
