FANUC America Authorized System Integrator Integrated Solutions developed a robotic sealant dispensing system to apply a silicone path on four different parts in order to prevent water from entering their doors.

The system utilizes FANUC’s versatile and compact LR Mate 200iD Robot to dispense the silicone onto the parts, and the robot uses Graco pumping and dispensing equipment to dispense. The system utilizes FANUC’s Dual Check Safety Software in two position check zones, providing safety rated speed and position monitoring on the robot. The system starts with DCS zone 1 activated – The user places and screws down a nest on the mounting plate, then places parts inside the nest. Upon pressing the cycle start button, the system’s pneumatically controlled door is actuated, an interlock switch is made and DCS zone 2 is enabled. From here, the system determines what nest is present based on a combination of proximity sensors, then runs its program accordingly based on the part.

The system’s vacuum turns on and suctions the parts down to ensure Z-axis placement of the parts. The FANUC LR Mate 200iD robot moves to the nest approach point. The robot then moves to the laser approach point. This laser has multiple functions, including confirmation of part presence and that the part is successfully suctioned, effectively reassuring that the Z-axis of each part is accurate. The FANUC robot lays the silicone bead with extreme precision and accuracy, then returns to the home position. Mineral water is used to prevent the needle tip from drying out.
