- Cleaning: an important first step, a proper cleaning ensures that the work you do to stain your deck both looks better, and lasts longer.
- Measuring: before heading to the store, find the amount of square footage that you’ll need to cover. That way you can be sure to buy the right amount of stain for the job.
- Color: from clear and transparent to semi-transparent and solid colors, you’ll want to understand the look that you’re going for. Transparent stains show the most of the wood’s natural grain and semi-transparent stains show medium wood grain. Solid stains show the least wood grain but will last longer. Most people chose transparent, or semi-transparent stains to get the best of both worlds.
