Tell me how to fix oven door glass.
If the oven door glass shattered, the first thing I’d do is sweep it up, assuming there are not flames pouring out the door. Next I’d send in a warranty replacement request on the oven to the manufacturer if I just got it.
You’re acting like this is a common problem.
There are oven models that have had issues with the glass failing when the unit first heated up, or on the first time it was turned to broil. You know that it is a manufacturer defect if you could see bubbles in the glass, or cracks before it shattered.
The oven door glass is supposed to be shatter-resistant.
If you have a gas stove, I’d say it might be the glass and it might be a gas explosion.
What?
If the gas valve malfunctioned or the control board fed it too much fuel, you might have had a mini-gas explosion in the oven.
Yet another reason I am glad I have an electric oven.
Make sure you unplug the electric power source before you try to replace the glass door of the oven, whether it is the inside glass or outside glass. And let it cool down before you touch it.
Caution hot should have been redundant as a warning on coffee cups, and especially so for ovens.
The best way to remove the glass is to remove the oven door using a screw driver on the locking tabs on each side of the door.
In short, make sure all the screws are loose.
You’ll probably need to take the handle off, too. Then take the door itself apart so you can access the glass.
Then what?
The outer door panel frame and outer glass piece are usually connected by double stick tape. To take that glass or the remains of it out, pry it off with a screw driver before putting the new one in place.
Then reassemble.
Always be careful not to bend the door frame. If it is bent, the glass will not lie flat, and you’ll either have heat leaking out or a risk of the window breaking again.
What about the tape?
Yes, you’ll have to put the foam tape back in, but it is best to use new foam tape. Reassemble everything and make sure the top door trim is all in place, too.
I know that being uneven would cause thermal leakage, too.
Do not forget to tighten all the screws, so nothing comes loose, and reattach the door to the oven.
It would be a little hard to forget that step, if I’m looking into an empty oven.
