plaster, it’s everywhere you want to be

Howdy guys and gals, in this video I explain the question are stucco weep or drip screed practical to install at a later date then house was built?
I do this large structural crack image repair by installing elastomeric professional grade caulking and sealant in the crack, then by applying a stucco sand finish over this caulking for cosmetic reasons.
Because this sikaflex caulking is so incredibly strong I expect it to move with the home as a result of expanding and contracting with the elements at work.
The cementitious finish on the top is simply for cosmetic reasons. This is a trade secret that I have used for as long as I have been in the trade, usually almost all materials say to not mix with others, therefor any results you achieve may be that you’re not doing this repair just like old kirk but instead trying to do like old kirk, either way best wishes with whatever method you chose in repairing this type of crack.

This video is to bring you a closer look at the Pemko S104D. This is a piece of kerf-in style silicone type weatherstripping. Very typical bulb sort of shape. This happens to be what it looks like when it ships from the factory in general when it is a shorter length. It is available in the website in many different lengths that are expressed in inches and some expressed in feet and you will want to be sure when adding to cart that you are ordering the proper length. This happens to be a 34″ piece that someone is obviously using for the header. You are seeing this frame cleaner packet here and seeing this label. Disregard those, they do not have any applicability to this piece of S104 from Pemko. So what is this? This is a piece of weatherstripping that is intended to be inserted into a kerf that is generally a wood frame. There is an image below this video showing everything important dimensionally about it and we will go over it next. The D stands for their dark brown or dark bronze. Your kerf width for this is going to be an 1/8″. The minimum distance between the face of the stop and the door is a 1/16″ and the maximum is a 1/4″. You will create a kerf in your frame that is an 1/8″ wide. Once this is installed, what Pemko is saying is that when the door closes and compresses the minimum distance that should be allotted is a 1/16″ meaning when the door is hung in the frame and the stops are applied to the frame, that clear distance when the door is at 0 degree of opening, there should be a 1/16″ there up to a 1/4″. You have to account for the thickness of the weatherstripping when you are setting the stops on the frame and that is the range that you are given. I personally would be closer to an 1/8″ to 3/16″. I want to be able to compress this material but not have to force it to close. I don’t want to have to get in and file the hole in the strike plates to make it work. I would like it to be a very manageable door in terms of its operation. So what they are saying is that you can fit this into a small space. If you are building a frame from scratch, allow an 1/8″ or 3/16″ so that you don’t have undue fatigue on the silicone every time your door closes. So they give a dimension of 3/16″ length of the one side of the barb here and then they give 9/32″ or just heavy on a 1/4″ from where the inside of the arrowhead starts on the backside of the silicone. Let me give you as best as I can the diameter of the bulb uncompressed, .280. So this is basically .280 thick and then from the base of it to here is .280 as well and that is what you are dealing with. Overall dimension is .485″ so basically from here to here .485 or practically a 1/2″. Now the name Pemko is synonymous with all things weatherstripping related. They have a comprehensive offering of kerf in style weatherstripping in a variety of different sizes. There is a link below this video to the manufacturer’s page where you can pull up the full line catalog and once you get there, search for S104 and you will get to the page where this is found and all of its sister products and you will see other kerf in style weatherstripping as well. If you have one that you are trying to identify feel free to email us a photograph of it and we will attempt to identify it. It sometimes quite frankly is tough to identify because door and frame manufacturers or window manufacturers might procure several hundred thousand feet of something for OEM and is not commercially available. Anyway, send us a photograph and we will be happy to help determine what you are working with. If you have any questions on the Pemko S104D dark brown or dark bronze silicone kerf-in style bulb type weatherstripping or any other Pemko product, please feel free to reach out to us. Thank you.
