The natural beauty of wood can add beauty and function to any home. Whether it’s a
fence, a deck, wood siding, or even a log home, wood is a great investment for any
homeowner.
However, the natural elements of sun weather and dirt over time turn the natural beauty of wood gray and unattractive. But a simple process including a one coat application of Messmers UV Plus can restore your wood surfaces to make them look like new.
Messmers products are easy to use. This short video will explain how to properly clean, brighten, and finish any wood surface using Messmers Wood and Deck Cleaner and Brightener and then apply a long-lasting one coat finish using Messmers UV Plus.
Besides weather and sun damage, the biggest enemy to the beauty of your wood is dirt. Dirt is one of the leading culprits that turns gorgeous natural wood color a dull, ugly gray. Messmer’s Wood and Deck Cleaner is the first step to restoring the natural wood glow to your natural wood finishes.
A one pound jar of Messmer’s Wood and Deck Cleaner will clean up to five hundred square feet of wood. It can also be mixed stronger for tougher jobs. Mix the cleaner according to label directions using the appropriate amount of hot water. We recommend applying the cleaner with a garden sprayer. A mop can be equally effective. Hose down the area to wet the deck and remove loose dirt and debris Also be sure to hose down any plants that are close to your working area.
Messmer’s Wood and Deck Cleaner is perfect for deep cleaning wood surfaces. Watch
as the cleaner actually lifts the dirt, pollen and old weathered finish. In just minutes your wood surface is now cleaned and is beginning to look like new. After rinsing the cleaner thoroughly you are ready to brighten the wood. Messmers recommends the use of gloves when using our wood brightener to avoid skin irritation. Mesmer’s Wood and Deck Brightener is concentrated powder. Simply mix the brightener according to label directions. One sixteen ounce jar will brightenup to five hundred square feet of wood. We recommend applying the brightener with a garden sprayer or a mop. Messmers Wood and Deck Brightener removes tannin and rust stains as well as balancing the pH of the wood. After about ten to fifteen minutes thoroughly rinse the wood with clean water. Allow at least twenty four hours for the wood to dry before applying your Messmers UV Plus finish.
Your newly cleaned and brightened surface is now ready to be preserved and protected. To be sure that your wood surface is ready to stain, check to be sure it’s dry and free
of any dust or dirt. To keep wood looking beautiful and lasting longer, be sure to protect it with Messmer’s UV Plus. There’s no need to add sealer because UV Plus stains, seals and finishes in one simple step.
Before proceeding with the entire project, apply to a small test area to ensure complete penetration and color satisfaction. Messmer’s UV Plus is a high quality oil base stain. For that reason most applications require only a single coat. UV Pus must fully penetrate the wood to be effective. Be sure to not over apply the stain. Messmer’s high solids content means longer life and more resiliency to the eroding effects of weather and daily use. Additionally, Messmer’s stains’ Trans Oxide pigments minimize sun damage.
Depending on the size and location of the area you need to finish, you can use a roller, a sponge pad, a brush or a clean cloth. After applying a uniform even coat, wait about thirty minutes and then use a soft clean cloth to remove any excess stain to prevent tackiness or surface sheen.
Rags, steel wool or waste soaked with this material may spontaneously catch fire if improperly discarded. Immediately after use, place rags, steel wool or waste in a sealed, water filled container.
